We had another fun workshop on Saturday, teaching the basics of using Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. Classes are so much fun, learning different techniques hands on and getting to know other people. We had such a multi-cultural class yesterday with 3 Brazillians, 2 Saudi Arabians, 1 English and an Aussie! I love it! Classes are in Heritage Park, about 45 mins from Brisbane CBD, so if you’re interested, you can book by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Next workshops are Friday June 20th or Saturday July 12th. More details on the “Workshop” tab at the top of this page.
I was a bit keen to get started on this ordinary telephone table before I took the standard “Before” picture, so the handle is sitting on top and its all ready to go!
I used Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in the colour Typewriter for this project. You’ll notice the colour looks very grey or charcoal at this stage, and you may think you’ve accidentally opened the wrong colour. Here it is with two coats of Typewriter and I’ve just sanded back the drawer to reveal some wood underneath the paint for a distressed look. In this picture I had used MMSMP Furniture Wax to go over the drawer, but for some reason, it still wasn’t bringing out the true Typewriter colour, so …I brought out the MMSMP Hemp Oil to do its magic stuff. Here is the finished, distressed base of the phone table:I was going through some old coffee sacks I have on hand for these kind of projects, and re-covered the seat in this one. Seemed fitting for a couple of reasons: 1. Juliana, who is doing work experience with me this week, is from Brazil, and helped me paint and oil this piece. 2. The World Cup is on in a couple of weeks, and being held in Brazil, so here’s to all the World Cup fans out there.
On a side note: Many Brazilians have expressed frustration at the $11 billion (8.01 billion euros) that their government has spent to host the World Cup. They say that the money could have been better spent on fixing inadequacies in health care, education, and public transport systems. Residents thought it would benefit the people, but it has not turned out that way, and there is much unrest surrounding this great event. Please be thinking of and praying for the nation of Brazil at this time.
