Makeover 1 – Dresser Drawers
These dresser drawers are the first of two furniture makeovers to share today. We’ve been pumping out numerous projects with an extra amazing helper in the workshop. Both of these makeovers are using Fusion Mineral Paint, so I hope you get some inspiration to use these colours on some of your own projects.
The first is this set of dresser drawers that my lovely workshop assistant, Celia, brought in as a surprise for me one day. I had been out running errands and returned to the workshop and she had pulled this little beauty out of the back of her car. She brought it in, sanded and cleaned it ready for painting!
We chose from Fusion’s Tones for Tots range, the gorgeous pastel blue, “Little Whale”. Two coats and Celia had this dresser finished and ready for handles (below).

I had these cute iron bow knobs on hand, and I thought they could pass as something for a nursery, making this dresser fairly gender neutral. Or, as you’ll see in the next pictures, it could be styled in a more feminine way for a bedroom.
Buying Furniture Tip:
These drawers are very sturdy and on runners, which is a great selling point, if you can find dressers like this to refinish. For my tips on selecting quality restorable furniture, I have a blog post HERE on my top 7 things to look for.
Makeover 2 – Entertainment console
This one was a freebie that Celia caught on Marketplace and so we said, “yes, please” and drove to pick it up. It was in a dirty state when we got it, and some old cracked plastic CD racks were a bit of a tackle to remove from inside the drawers, but Celia did a great job on this one!
Celia stripped back the top to raw so that we could stain it, then scuff sanded the rest of the cabinet using a combo of the orbital Sander and the Sandi Hands sanding gloves.
I stained the top in Fusion’s All in One Stain & Finishing Oil colour, Cappuccino. Remember if you don’t want it so dark, you can always use a combo of 1/2 Natural, 1/2 Cappuccino. I’ve done this lots of times with great results.
We painted the outside in Midnight Blue (Fusion) and the inside of the drawers in an off white (Little Stork).
I love the finished result! It’s such a solid, rustic cabinet, and a far cry from the 90s looking state it was in when it first arrived to us.
