I’m excited to show you my latest milk painted drawers! Artissimo is one of the darkest, almost midnight blue hues in the Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint line. MMS Milk Paint is one of my favourite paints to use for a lovely, primitive and rustic farmhouse style.

Recently, I did a three part live video series on how I painted and finished this set of drawers over on my Facebook page. So I thought I’d post them all together here in one blog post for you to see the start to finish process.

Part 1 – Mixing the Milk Paint

In part 1 below, I show you how to mix the Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint – remember it’s a replay of a live video, so you can skip ahead to the parts you want to watch!

Part 2 – Staining the Wood top & drawers

In this video, I show you how I blended two of Fusion’s Stain & Finishing Oils to create the beautiful light cappuccino colour on the top of the dresser and the drawers. I love the Silk Oak grain in this piece, so it is lovely to see the grain really stand out as the oil finish soaks in.

Part 3 – Tough Coat Sealer over Milk Paint

To seal the surface of the Milk Painted drawers, I used Miss Mustard Seed’s Tough Coat Sealer. At the end of this post, I’ll share a link to a great post that explains the difference between Milk Paint, Chalk Paint and Mineral Paints. Milk Paint has a matte, porous finish and therefore needs a sealer to avoid fingerprints and reactions to water spills.

You’ll see little flecks of original paint in the silky oak surface, and I don’t mind showing off those historical character traits of its former lives. If only furniture could speak, right?
