Old TV Tray Tables? Give them a Farmhouse Style Makeover

TV Tray Tables Before:

We’ve had these TV tray tables since we received them as a wedding gift over 27 years ago! They’ve kept pretty well, although somewhere along the way, one was broken beyond repair. So we were left with three sitting on the stand that they came with.

In the pic above, I had already sanded the tops of two of them. You can see the one at bottom left is slightly darker.

I’ve seen a lot of Farmhouse style tv tray tables over the years on Pinterest and Instagram, and I love the look of stained top and black base.

Video Tutorial – Replay

Got your old TV tray tables ready? Here’s the replay of the video tutorial I did showing you the steps I took, including staining the tops, stenciling the numbers.

Artisan Natural Chalk finish

On the TV tray tables, I used Artisan’s colour, Noir to paint the base AND to create the stain on top. If you missed it in the video above, I created a stain using approx. one part paint to 3 or 4 parts water. You can really water the paint down to any ratio you are happy with. Once painted and stained and the stencils in place, I used Artisan’s Flat Matte Sealer to go over the entire piece. I used a brush for the base, but used a damp cloth to create a smooth matte finish over the TV Tray table tops.
