Limited Spaces Available

Learn the basics of using specialty furniture paints such as: Mineral Paint and Chalk Paint.

It’s easier than you think, with a few handy tips at a furniture painting workshop to guide you on your way!

  • Workshops are held in Bahrs Scrub, QLD. About 45 mins south of Brisbane CBD.
  • Bookings are essential. Spaces are limited to a group of four, to make our time together more valuable for you to learn as much as you can.
  • Price includes 3.5 hour hands on workshop, paint products provided to use on the day and morning tea.
  • 10% off all products purchased on the day.

After you have booked your place, you will be sent further details including address, etc. closer to the workshop day.

In our 3.5 hour workshop you will:

  • learn the difference between different types of Furniture paint (Mineral Paint & Chalk Paint for eg.).
  • learn the basics of prepping furniture before painting (including the use of Ultra Grip for slick surfaces and when it may be necessary).
  • learn how to avoid drips and brush strokes & general brushing techniques.
  • learn about different finishes or top coats for your painted pieces (using hemp oil, furniture waxes, tough coat sealer, Stain & Seal)
  • have any questions answered as best we can about specific situations you may have with regards to painting your own furniture.

What to bring & how to prepare your “paint your own” piece:

  • wear your “painting” clothes (we do supply aprons, but just in case, it’s ideal not to wear your best outfit)
  • bring a small item of furniture that you can start on (you may even finish it depending on coats needed and dry time)
    • examples: small side table without drawers or a lamp stand; a small chair (preferably not with spindles for time sake); a wooden picture frame or two (these are quick, so any size is fine); wooden serving tray; a shelf; an old drawer. Basically anything you can carry easily under your arm into the class.
    • items must be made of solid real wood – not chipboard, MDF or laminate (wood veneer is okay)
    • it will save you valuable time at our workshop if you give your piece a scuff sand before you attend. This is to “key” the surface in preparation for painting. You can scuff sand your piece by using approx 180 -240 grit sandpaper, either by hand or with a sander, but you don’t have to remove all of the existing varnish if we are going to be painting your piece. The only time you would need to remove ALL varnish/stain is if you are wanting to re-stain or re-varnish the wood to make it show the wood grain. Happy to clarify any questions via email once you receive your booking confirmation.

Furniture painting is so much fun and you will be surprised at how many different ways you can change the look of a piece of furniture in your home!
