A Bedroom Set Makeover
I really didn’t envisage a butterfly bedroom set when I picked up this bedroom drawer set from our local Lifeline store. The pieces were in great condition, but a little chipped in places and a couple of handles missing pieces. But once I got them home, I had an idea. So, I guess I owe them really!
Prepping is an important step!
No matter what type of paint you use, prepping your furniture is still an important step, especially if you want a smooth finish. I gave the existing varnish a bit of a scuff with some 120 grit sandpaper. I wanted to go for a clean finish with no distressing, so sanding gives the paint a better chance at allowing the paint to adhere well.I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Renfrew Blue for the basic colour on the side drawers
Painted perfection:
I used a synthetic brush and as you can see, when you first apply the paint, the brush strokes are visible. Fusion is a self levelling paint, so these strokes disappear pretty well as the paint dries – super fast drying by the way!
Here’s a short video my daughter took for me while I painted the first drawer. You can see how smoothly the paint goes on:
Two coats of Renfrew Blue on both bedsides …
Stencilling:
I then used one of the Fusion white colours – Lamp White, mixed with a little Pearl tint, to add the beautiful butterfly stencil. It’s a large stencil but is no longer available to order here in Australia. If you are in the USA, you can try some of the beautiful butterfly stencils available at Essential Stencil here.
And the Butterfly Bedroom Set is done:
I used Casement white on the larger set of drawers with the contrasting butterflies in Renfrew Blue: I took the original handles, cleaned them up a bit, then dry brushed on some Fusion copper metallic paint.
Now, a beautiful butterfly bedroom set awaits a pretty room to fill!
