The Pot Stand that Scanned at 20 CENTS!
Yes, you read that right. I was in Kmart’s home decor section recently and saw this great metal pot stand for $6 on the shelf price. If you know me, you may be aware that I am not a plant person! Well, I do love plants, but I don’t tend to have much luck with keeping them alive … I think I’m getting better though, and have a couple of Maiden Hair ferns that are still thriving in my workshop! Yay, me!

So needless to say, I was not thinking of using these pot stands for plants – I was thinking “furniture hack”. I could visualise a round table top attaching nicely to one of these so I took one to the register, so I could take one home and see how my plan would work out before lashing out on another one or two.
But when I got to the check out, this little gem scanned at a measly $0.20 that’s twenty cents!! The lady at the register said they were marked down on clearance! Well you can guess – of COURSE I went back and took what was left on the shelf! They were painted white and a little bit chippy – which I have a feeling could be a reason they were marked down, as the paint chipped as you tried to stack them back together. But maybe they don’t know that sometimes chippy is a good thing!
If you’re from the USA, I found something similar on Amazon here that even has hairpin legs! How cool would this be:
Another item I was looking for at KMart, was this nifty table with hairpin metal legs. But this one is for another project … another post. However, since I’ll be using the legs and not the top, this plain black top would be perfect for my pot stand hack.
My Attachment Solution:
I scoured the aisles of our local hardware store to find some kind of solution to be able to attach the table top to the pot stand base, and I saw these.
Perfect! Here’s how I used them. They looked the perfect size to fit around the metal top of the pot stand, and … they were! Now I just needed to screw them in place after centring the stand on the table top.
I do love using the Ryobi One Plus Cordless Drill – it has a screw driver bit for both Phillips and flat head screws. Cordless is great when you need to just pick it up for small jobs like this. Australian Amazon Associates link for Cordless Drill HERE.
Here’s what it looks like underneath.
I think it turned out pretty well! One of my girls has claimed it for their bedside table.
Did you see my Paris posts?
I’ve been reminiscing our surprise European vacation on the blog here the last few posts, so I decided to break those up a bit and add in a good old DIY hack. But if you missed it, we were up to the first leg of our trip, where we landed in Paris and our amazing Airbnb we stayed in, saw the beautiful Chateau de Versailles, and a lovely Antique Store.
Let me know if you’re enjoying the Europe photos in the comments below. I’ll be back posting some more surprise places Marty took me in a week or so.
